Another use for steel wool is to keep rodents from chewing through the exhaust and air intake pipes of your vehicle. Just stuff a few handfuls of steel wool into the pipes and you’ll have a barrier against rodents like mice, rats, and stone martens.
Another way to use steel wool is as a substitute for abrasive pads on wood and paint projects. Fine steel wool (like 0000 grade) can burnish surfaces very well and leave them as smooth as they would be after sanding with a low hundreds grit pad. You can get it in a variety of roughness levels and it’s super affordable, too. It’s also a bit safer than abrasive pads and is coated with something that prevents it from causing rust spots or messing with finishes.
